Dr. James G. Speight has doctorate degrees in Chemistry, Geological Sciences, and Petroleum Engineering and is the author of more than 75 books in petroleum science, petroleum engineering, and environmental sciences. Dr. Speight has fifty years of experience in areas associated with (i) the properties, recovery, and refining of reservoir fluids, conventional petroleum, heavy oil, and tar sand bitumen, (ii) the properties and refining of natural gas, gaseous fuels, (iii) the production and properties of petrochemicals, (iv) the properties and refining of biomass, biofuels, biogas, and the generation of bioenergy, and (v) the environmental and toxicological effects of fuels. His work has also focused on safety issues, environmental effects, remediation, and safety issues as well as reactors associated with the production and use of fuels and biofuels. He is the author of more than 70 books in petroleum science, petroleum engineering, biomass and biofuels, environmental sciences. Although he has always worked in private industry which focused on contract-based work, he has served as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemical and Fuels Engineering at the University of Utah and in the Departments of Chemistry and Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming. In addition, he was a Visiting Professor in the College of Science, University of Mosul, Iraq and has also been a Visiting Professor in Chemical Engineering at the following universities: University of Missouri-Columbia, the Technical University of Denmark, and the University of Trinidad and Tobago. Professor Rafiq Islam, Ph.D. is the President of Emertec Research and Development Ltd. and an adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University, where he was Canada’s first Killam Chair in petroleum engineering during 2000-2005. He has written nearly 800 publications, including dozens of books and numerous keynote speeches. He is the executive editor of the Journal of Nature Science and Sustainable Technology and the Journal of Characterization and Development of Novel Materials. He serves on the board of Journal of Sustainable Energy Engineering (JSEE) and several other journals and corporations. Prof. Islam is known as the most published engineer in the world. He has coined terms, such as 'green petroleum' and ‘sustainable petroleum development’, ‘economics of intangibles’, etc. His ground-breaking approach in research, training and education is summarized in his book: Reconstituting the curriculum, Wiley-Scrivener, 2013. His work has created a paradigm shift in a wide range of applications, spanning through various disciplines. His most notable contribution is in the areas sustainability, environmental integrity, greening of pharmaceutical engineering, and knowledge modeling, on which topic he has written dozens of books and over 700 papers. He received 30 million dollars in research funding from various government and industrial entities. His research spun off a number of technology transfer projects that led to the development of three companies. One of them now has become one of the most innovative oil spill remediation technology development companies. During 2000 through 2005, Dr. Islam held the Killam Research Chair Professor in Oil and Gas, which was the only Petroleum Engineering Research Chair in Canada. Prior to this, Dr. Islam was the first NRCan (Natural Resources Canada) professor of engineering at the University of Regina, where he was the program leader of petroleum engineering. He was instrumental in establishing the Petroleum Technology Research Center (PTRC) and the Greenhouse Gas Technology Center (GTC) in Regina. In his 25 years of professional career, Dr. Islam has written over 700 research articles on various modeling, petroleum, environmental, and communication related topics. During the same period, he received more than 20 million dollars in institutional and over 10 million dollars in individual research grants, and employed over 150 post-doctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate research students. In recognition of his research and teaching excellence, he has received a number of international awards, including Einstein Gold Medal of Honor, and Crown and Eagle Gold Medal for both of which Dr. Islam is the first recipient in Canada. Dr. Hiwa Sidiq currently hold the chairman of Petroleum Engineering at Komar University of Science and Technology. After working at KDMIPE, ONGC, Dehradun, Dr. G.P.Karmakar worked as a Faculty Member in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. He worked as Professor in Petroleum Engineering at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Raebareli and at School of Petroleum Technology, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gadhinagar, India. Abdelaziz Khlaifat is the Head of Petroleum Engineering Department at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic and AD Poly SPE Students Chapter Advisor. Prior to joining AD Poly, Abdelaziz worked as a Research and Development Manager of Dhahran Research Center at Weatherford International (Geoscience Development). Erstwhile, he worked as a Senior Reservoir Engineer, specialized in an unconventional resources (tight and shale gas) at Weatherford Saudi Arabia. Before joining Saudi Arabia office, he worked as a senior reservoir engineer (modeling and simulation) in the reservoir engineering group of the Weatherford Well Engineering Center of Excellence in Dubai. He obtained his BSc degree in Petroleum Engineering (1990) from Moscow Institute of Oil and Gas, Moscow-Russia, Master of Chemical Engineering and PhD in Chemical/Reservoir Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-USA in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Before joining Weatherford, he had held different positions in the academia. In 2009 he was promoted to a full professor of chemical engineering at Mutah University, Jordan. Abdelaziz is actively involved in scientific research and development of novel methodologies and techniques in tight and shale gas reservoirs, shale gas resource development workflow and tight gas staged field experiments. He has researched in the areas of petroleum engineering, materials engineering and geotechnical engineering. His cutting edge research were in the areas of development of hydraulic fracturing and smart cements for oil well application related to preventing disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. He also developed smart drilling muds for application in the petroleum and geotechnical fields. He integrated the advances in the areas of nanotechnology, polymer technology and material technology to modify the smart cement, drilling muds and expansive clays. His research area of geotechnical engineering was on controlling the expansion in clays causing major infrastructural damages in many parts of the U.S. including Houston, Dallas and Denver cities using polymers. The polymer treatment method developed by Dr. Mohammed is an outstanding experimentalist, a talent that is very difficult find these days (Adviser said). His research focused on the experimental studies and mathematical modeling of the performance of the smart cement, smart drilling mud and polymer treated expansive clay. Dr. Mohammed has developed several mathematical models to predict the behavior of smart cement, smart drilling mud and polymer treated expansive clays. He developed models to predict the curing, rheological properties and piezoresistive behavior of smart cements. He also developed a new model to predict the rheological behavior of drilling muds. He has developed constitutive models to predict the behavior of polymer treated expansive clays. His work has resulted in 45 journal publications and conference proceedings. The refereed journal publications are in Petroleum Science, Engineering, Egyptian Petroleum Journal Geotechnical and Geological Engineering and ASTM Testing and Evaluation. His research work was also presented at the Offshore Technology Conferences in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 where there were about 100,000 attendees from around the world. His research work was also presented at the American Association of Drilling Engineers, Center for Innovative Grouting Materials and Technology and Texas Hurricane Center of Innovative Technology Conferences. In addition to the above-mentioned research experience Dr. Mohammed was one of the Teaching Assistants in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department in University of Houston, Houston, Texas, USA from 2011 to 2015.

Dr. AJAY MANDAL is presently working as associate professor in IIT Dhanbad. He is involved in training of executives from various organizations like ONGC, Oil India Ltd., NTPC etc on different fields of Petroleum Engineering.He received 2015 SPE South Asia Regional Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty,CANADA BANK BEST RESEARCH Award in IIT (ISM), 2014 & 2015, 2016. He is the recipient of “Young Scientist” award given by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under SERC Fast Track scheme.Under the leadership of Dr. Ajay Mandal, the SPE (Society of petroleum engineers) Chapter of ISM won the Outstanding Chapter Award for 2010.
